ABSTRACT
Background: Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) deficiency is a condition that affects an individual’s immune system causing low levels or deficit of the MBL protein in their blood affecting the innate immune system.
Purpose: The aim was to briefly investigate MBL deficit gene associations and provide a guide for practitioners that will direct their course of action in the event a client presented with this condition.
Results: A nutrition protocol was developed for alternative treatment options.
Conclusion: Based on MBL's effect on the innate immune system, polyphenols, vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, cruciferous vegetables, microbial foods, low-glycemic foods, and adequate hydration may serve as foundational starting points for developing nutrition protocols.
