Our Institutional Review Board

True Paleo Inc has established an internal Institutional Review Board (IRB) that oversees the health and human subjects (HHS) research conducted by the EatitUP Research League. The primary role of our IRB is to review and approve studies involving HHS submitted by primary investigators (PI) or project directors (PD) volunteering for our organization. The IRB plays a critical role in upholding the highest standards of research ethics.

The IRB's main objective is to safeguard the rights and well-being of research participants by ensuring that approved research aligns with ethical guidelines, federal regulations, state law, IRB policies and procedures, and industry best practices. It meticulously evaluates research proposals to ensure they align with the aforementioned criteria and only approves studies that meet these rigorous standards.

Are you thinking about conducting HHS research?

If you are thinking about conducting research, you should know that different objectives pertain to different regulations. Even if you are planning on conducting surveys or interviews, which your participants are limited to such objectives, these regulations still apply.

PI/PDs and secondary researchers affiliated with the EatitUP Research League are accountable for conducting their studies with the utmost ethical conduct, adhering to their approved protocols, and complying with the rules, regulations, and policies set forth by the IRB and the federal government.

Non-Affiliated Researchers

For PI/PDs, secondary researchers, or potential IRB members wanting to join our mission, please see the research volunteer page. All affiliates must undergo a stringent interview process and possess the necessary IDs, background, and certifications required for application.

Affiliated Researchers

For PI/PDs and secondary researchers affiliated with our organization who want to apply for IRB review, please fill out the Screening Survey located on the main page of the Research Team Portal. All applicants submitting an application for review must be active members with a professional membership and direct research affiliates of True Paleo Inc.

By completing the Screening Survey, you will have a way to identify whether or not you need to complete the OHRP-IRB Application form as well as next steps to follow.  We will also have documentation of the process that guides your decision. This should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Please be ready to copy and paste in any text about your study, such as title, purpose, and methodologies.

Diversity Amongst Board Members

The IRB comprises of seven esteemed members. Our IRB embodies a commitment to diversity and inclusion, as it consists of a balanced representation of expertise, backgrounds, and perspectives. Among the board members, there are five female and two male members, ensuring gender parity. Furthermore, we prioritize inclusivity by having four non-affiliated members, fostering impartiality and independent oversight.

To uphold our dedication to diversity, the collective expertise of our board members encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including clinical nutrition, psychology, recovery, divinity, and primary research. This diversity of knowledge and experience allows for comprehensive evaluations and considerations in the ethical review of research involving HHS, while promoting research excellence within the fields of clinical nutrition.
