ABSTRACT

Background: Social media influences people and can counteract weight loss regimens by making erroneous claims.

Purpose: The aim was to highlight the impact of social media poor advices and recenter the attention to how eating more of plant foods is a superior diet approach for utility in nutrition practice.

Results: A list of foods was developed on how to over eat for weight loss with evidence, and an additional list was crafted for practitioners to help teach clients to assess such claims on social media.

Conclusion: Teaching clients about social media and paid influencers can help shape understandings of nutrition and its place in health and disease.
